Why Shopify

Shopify is one of the easiest ecommerce platforms to run. It’s fully hosted on Shopify’s own servers, so you don’t have to worry about hosting, payment gateways or the other technical details that come with setting up an ecommerce site.

You can customise a free theme or buy one, add your products, set up your shipping and you’re most of the way there. It’s much simpler to get going than WordPress with WooCommerce, and far easier than Magento (Adobe Commerce).

That convenience comes with a monthly fee and transaction fees on sales if you don’t use Shopify Payments, but for most businesses the pros far outweigh the cons.

Shopify has four main plans:

  • Basic
  • Grow
  • Advanced
  • Plus

Basic suits start-ups and small businesses. As you move up the tiers you get more features, like lower card rates, B2B functionality and more checkout customisation on Plus.

Many businesses start on Basic and move up as sales grow. Being able to scale on one platform, without replatforming, is one of Shopify’s biggest strengths.

Liquid Development

Shopify themes are built with Liquid, Shopify’s templating language. The platform has come a long way over the years, and Online Store 2.0 themes are highly customisable out of the box.

The theme editor covers the basics. If you want something more bespoke, Shopify is developer-friendly, and custom code or apps can extend your store well beyond what the editor allows.

We provide Liquid theme development as part of our ecommerce services and work with some of the biggest Shopify stores in Liverpool.

Shopify App Development

We build Shopify apps, and you can find our latest releases on the Shopify App Store.

Most of our app work is bespoke, built for and installed on a single client’s store. If you have an idea for your store and can’t find a solution in the App Store, we’ll build it for you.

Too many apps can slow your store down, so it’s worth auditing what’s installed regularly and removing anything you don’t use. Also, check that no code is left behind after uninstalling. Some apps leave legacy code in your theme that sits there unnoticed and drags down your page speed scores.

Third-party monthly subscriptions and bloated apps can really hurt page speeds in Shopify. We build private apps to replace multiple monthly recurring SaaS bills while keeping code execution clean on your Shopify website.

Shopify Back-End Development

We automate Shopify order processing for our clients. In the past, you might have needed a team of people to handle orders behind the scenes, because the storefront is only one side of running an ecommerce business.

Day-to-day, far more happens in the background: printing orders, copying information between systems, handling support tickets, returns and couriers.

We use API and FTP integrations alongside Shopify Flow to automate these back-end processes. That lets you scale your orders without taking on more staff and eating into your margins.

We offer Shopify integration services to all clients, and this development helps you to keep the costs of doing business low whilst you increase your sales revenue and profit margins.

Shopify Dashboards

At Frankenstein Digital, our main concept is to stitch everything together from a digital marketing perspective. One example that brings several of our services together is a bespoke dashboard we built for a Shopify client.

It connects Shopify, Google Search Console and Google Ads, and uses crawlers to track competitor pricing. From one screen, our client can:

  • See a competitor’s price and match it on similar products with one click
  • Check how products are performing in Google Shopping
  • Switch off products in Google Ads with one click if they aren’t generating a return
  • View External Incoming Links
  • Measure Shopify sales and Paid Ads revenue side by side

It also solves an attribution problem. A product might show £500 in conversion value in Google Ads but have zero sales in Shopify. That’s because Google credits the sale to the product that was clicked, not the one the customer actually bought.

The dashboard shows which products are driving sales even when they aren’t converting themselves. It also highlights products that sell well in Shopify but get little visibility in Google Shopping. Those are opportunities: there’s proven demand, and more paid visibility could grow their sales.

This is an easy mistake to make when you look at performance across several platforms. A product can look like a top seller in one place when the reality is different. Knowing which products actually bring in revenue, and which just get the credit, is key to spending your ad budget well.

For managers or business owners who have trouble navigating Google Ads or measuring performance against organic store sales, this dashboard proves useful on multiple fronts.

Frequently Asked

Common questions about Shopify development.

It depends on what you need. Theme changes and small features can be quoted as a fixed job, while custom apps, integrations and full builds are scoped first so you know the cost before any work starts. Get in touch and we'll talk you through it.

Yes. Most of our work is improving stores that already exist, whether that's custom sections, layout changes, speed fixes or new functionality. You don't need a full rebuild to get a better store.

Yes. If there's nothing in the App Store that does what you need, we'll build it. Custom apps are built for your store only, so there's no monthly app fee and no extra code slowing your site down.

Yes. We connect Shopify to your suppliers, warehouse, couriers and other systems using APIs, FTP and Shopify Flow, so orders move through without anyone copying information between systems by hand.

Yes. We've worked with Magento since 2013, so we know both sides of the move. Products, customers and order history come across, every URL is redirected, and your current store keeps trading until the switchover.

Yes. We work with stores on every Shopify plan, from Basic through to Plus, including B2B setups and checkout customisation.

No, we work with Shopify stores across the UK. But we're based in Liverpool, so if you're local we're happy to meet in person, and you'll deal directly with the person doing the work.

Yes. Many of our clients stay with us after launch for ongoing development, SEO and PPC, so the store keeps improving rather than being left alone once it's built.
